  • In the "Earliest Annals of Beleriand" things happened at break-neck speed. Only 250/300 years!

Hehe, yes, whole generations were later added to the story!
If the sons of Fëanor had spent half the energy they used on douchery, on regaining the Silmarils, they probably would have gotten them back long before the Dagor Bragollach.

I really don't see any way they could have gotten them from Morgoth, to be fair. (Not denying that they expend a lot of energy on stupid things, though!)
On to "The Shaping of Middle-earth". Reading the "History of Middle-earth" slowly. One volume, and then one or two other books.
Saw the "Do Frodo live"-thread in the forum. I'm suspecting if he do so, he is living at Compton Pauncefoot, near South Cadbury in Somerset, UK
If Aragorn knew the story of Turin, maybe it made him go to rescue Merry and Pippin. Not to repeat Turin's mistake?

Not a connection I've ever made before! But yes, he definitely goes after Merry and Pippin because he thinks it the right thing to do, and doesn't want to be lured away from that by 'the mission.' So no doubt cautionary tales stuck with him ;) I think there is no doubt that Aragorn knows Túrin's story.

    This is good insight.
Doing "Unfinished Tales" this Yule-tide. Spent 1 Yule and 2 Yule on "Narn i Hin Hurin". Nienor is somewhat of an opposite of Signy of the Volsungsaga.
Finished the "Silmarillion Seminar"-podcast series yesterday. Thanks to Prof. Olsen and the Silmarillionaires for making this.

Yes, made me go from "The Silmarillion is OK" to "The Silmarillion is great".
Tony Meade's summary of session one, brings back the memory of when we did Exploring the Lord of the Rings at break neck speed. Now we have seen the wisdom of the Ents.
Bought "The History of Middle-Earth" today. The 3 vol collection. And I already have a heap of books I should have read.
Surprised that Spongebob-style time cards aren't the way we tell how time pass in Silmfilm.

A couple of years ago I came up with a scheme I liked using a timeline bar during the opening credits, but it was soundly rejected.

That definitely needs to exist in the supplemental material on the DVDs
