Hi.
Prof. Olsen mention that even Anduin could not be trusted to carry the Ring to the sea. Thinking Anduin having a will of its own (like Caradhras), getting corrupted, and wanting to hold on to the Ring might be taking it to far? Or does it? Might the will of the Ring have stopped it from being swept to the sea, or was this just coincidence preventing this for happening?

Have you ever dropped a piece of metal (of any sort) into a body of water, even moving water? Does it 'roll with the current' or sink to the bottom? I think the answer to your question is pretty clear. And even if the Anduin current moves fast enough in its mid-channel to push the Ring along, that's assuming the Ring would stay in the middle and not be diverted to the banks somewhere, to be noticed and grabbed by someone.

Yes, as an angler I have dropped metal into water, usually moving, and yes, it do 'roll with the current', more often than not. The speed of river need not to be that great to roll small and light pieces of metal along.

The river had the Ring for an age before Deagol found it. It got buried in the mud when it fell off Isildur's hand, but rivers change course, and mud shifts over time. Also, Saruman has told the Council that the Ring had been carried to the sea so they don't need to worry.
