The discussion today made me thing this would be a good starting point.

There are people in these photos for scale, and many other photos online. The 'abrupt' change from green land to beach might work well.
 
Oh, definitely, the Pelori are going to be a very significant backdrop here! I did not mean to imply 'coast of England' can in any way provide that - I was just focusing on the green land and the beach. There might be some flat land between the mountains and the shore, though...I don't think Alqualondë is built on a mountain spur plunging into the sea (even if that is quite dramatic!)

I've always envisioned Alqualondë like this. The Pelori in the back and some Teleri style houses hanging over the water and some other buildings built by the noldor with stone and metal.
This is from the Lofoten Islands in Norway.
