I was listening to episode 115, and I agree that there haven't been any births or marriages in Rivendell 17 years, but there must have been change. Where else are the elves crossing the Shire coming from? They're probably losing people like crazy (Lothlorien too, I imagine), and that's a very recent development, according to Sam.
