Epic battels

So for months and months I have been trying to do the epic battels at helm deep and failing in some of the most spectacular ways
So I'm hoping to get a team together to work out way though them let me know if your up for it and we will try and set a date.
See you all soon

I am one of those fools that actually like EB's. I would be all up for running any of them with you. Let me know when u can and hopefully I can be on at that time.

Thanks guys!
Fin you crazy monkey liking EBs is just odd but then again I too I'm in the odd group (the best group).
I'm on at the weekends mostly so look out for Rosiebug, Gaivin or Amglord and give me a shout.
only prob may be I'm in the UK land so this may be a hitch but hopefully we can work it out

Thanks to Fin, I now know I'm not the only person in-game that enjoys EBs :).

I can help out too, if you see me in Discord or in game (Hurstor or Helting), just send me a message.

Im starting to worry:)
It's not so much that I don't enjoy them it's mote that I get frustrated when I keep failing think I just not trained enough to do them solo yet :p

Epic battles are not easy. Not having promotion points makes them even harder (making it difficult to get promotion points). There are also specific things that must be done to win certain battles, but the game doesn't really reveal what those are (e.g., taking out the enemy catapults in Deeping Wall).

I usually read the lotro-wiki entry on an epic battle before playing it. Especially if I want to do side-objectives as well as possible (i.e., to get a platinum, to earn more promotion points).

I have found that if you are starting with the Helms Deep EB's, if you simply ignore the side quests on all of them, that you will succeed in completing them. There are/is one side quest in the first one (Helms Dike?) that can wipe you, but if you don't get that one, (and I can't remember for the life of me the name of that one is) and concentrate on just keeping Gamling alive and maybe keep using the commanders Heal/shield/attack when your cool down is up, you should be able to beat that one. Same for the rest of Helms Deep EB's don't try to do to much, your characters class really doesn't matter in EB's (except if your a healer, which can be helpful in all of them) it is all about you staying alive and keeping the main NPC's alive. if you get through all of the Helms Deep EB's you should have gotten enough points to get your character a bit more powerful and be able to start looking at the side quests. As a side note, I don't know if you have the MT EB's Open yet, I think you need to have the region pack, but I recently took a level 15 Toon into that one just before going to bed. I talked to Gandalf and then turned my monitor off, and went to bed. Next day I checked and not only did I complete the EB with a silver, but even one of the side quest gave me a silver. All by it self.

It's probably when the Dunlandings attack the tower, as I believe they engage Gamling (and will kill him). I've lost that EB that way once.

This is an epic strategy (pun intended). I definitely have to try this. Although, I'll probably watch it .

Keep in mind, it was the first time I ran that EB. I have also found that the first time when doing any EB, seems to be the easiest. They seem to be a bit scaled down the first time through....:)

Thanks to the person that I can not for the life of me remember who (sorry I'm and the worst with names) we managed to get me though 2 of the helms deep EBs.
I tried doing Glittering caves to day and got so lost I couldn't even find the bad guys!! So if people are still willing to help that's would be brilliant.
Can I just say that I love our kin! You guys are the best most helpful people around and therefore you are get a giant hobbit hug!

Your welcome....:) It was fun running them with you, I still don't know why we didn't get platinum, on a couple side quest, but oh well. Glittering cave is in my eye's is one of, if not the, hardest ones in the chain, only because as you found out it is hard to navigate. hopefully I will be on again when you are and we can fellow up again, but if you get them done with others or someone else then that's great to! (BTW, I am terrible with remembering names also, that's why I asked if it was you that wanted to run EB's in Kinchat other day. )

Im bad luck when on Rosiebug I love her to bits (she was my first alt) but my other two are way likelier they get all the cool drops!

Ah ... it figures you kids kicked this off whilst I was off on vacation! Fin, Gravidy - you're not alone in enjoying BBs. Especially, for me, the Helm's Deep ones - still kinda get my head wrapped around the ones in Gondor. Rosie, I'm glad you were able to get into it; I'd be happy to help where and as able, too. Give me a shout on Discord; best opportunity to actually reach me, because I might be on any of 8 toons ... or none.

Anyway: I've run Helm's Dike with two a whole bunch - preferably an Engineer and a Captain (BB role, not the class, though that works as well) - and can be really smooth ... IF you take the time with an Engineer to set up the field before actually starting the battle (move/place barricades, set up siege weapons). It's probably my favorite of the bunch. Taking the time to set the field allows you to score really well most times you run, at least solo or duo. I've never run it on Fellowship; that would be a great exercise, I think, but I'd want someone who did it a few times leading.

Deeping Wall is not too bad, and you can usually score pretty well; I love the use of heavy siege weapons on that one :-D . But it throws some really tough side quests, and I've failed those a bunch. Those can also cost you with some of the basic scoring as well (thinking of keeping the flags intact, primarily). Again, I've never done this beyond the usual solo/duo; I can only image what craziness applies with a full raid (I'm told you have to protect the *entire* wall on that one).

Deeping Coomb I've found to be quite fun; again it pays to prep quick, setting and upgrading barricades on the two primary entry paths. From there, it's really about DPS, even on the side quests.

Fin, I absolutely agree, of the bunch Glittering really is the hardest. The wide and confusing separation of locations, especially when the side tasks hit, makes it rough. And it seems like one or two are almost impossible to complete with a good score (thinking particularly of the defilers and trolls attacking the passage to the camp).

Looking forward to seeing/hearing more on this ...

BTW, keeping Gamling alive in his spot on top of the wall spanning the Dike's causeway isn't too tough ... so long as you set up the approach well. That's part of what I'm referring to by arranging it before starting the battle. Both the tower quest and the supplies quest (and keeping Gamling alive during them) are made MUCH easier if you stack and upgrade a couple of barricades right where enemies have to come around the corner of that first passage up. Guaranteed they'll get past the soldiers; but the two barricades will slow them greatly and allow defenders to catch up, and upgrading puts that much more damage on them as well. Also, an engineer can drop various traps in there to help even more (dots are best). I run the Dike more than any other BB, and I don't think I've ever had Gamling die (though I've failed to preserve the tower/supplies a time or two ... :p)

Well, they ARE rough to do solo, Rosie ... though some are better than others (Dike, for instance, and I would probably put Coomb in that category, too). However, all of them will probably be somewhat frustrating until you get yourself fairly well promoted in your choice of Captain, Engineer and/or Vanguard. Once you have a sufficient amount of points into those, you'll find it becomes a good bit easier because of all the extra capabilities you bring to the battles.

Agree with all you have said here mdmnmdllr....and yes the problem most face with the Helms Deep EB's is when your trying to do them the first time and have no points to spend on your toon to rank up and actually be able to do something in there other then chop hooks and ladders or tell the officer to heal/haste/damage. The full raid version is a blast if you have enough folks that are ranked and know it pretty well. sadly it starts as soon as someone goes in, so u dont have the luxury of setting up before hand. I have a kin mate that knows the Glittering cave very well, so I've learned a bit from her, but it is still a pain.....I am still up for running any and all of these so give me a shout if you can and I will be on board!

This might be a daft question, but not only do I specialise in those, I find they often get overlooked resulting in loss of potential fun, so…

I understand that the Helm's Deep Epic Battles are not available unless one buys the corresponding expansion. However the later EBs are part of the Epic Questline and therefore should be available to all and sundry.

So does that mean that I can try them now even though I have no characters anywhere near that area (indeed none who have even finished Volume I  )? I shall try to remember to make the attempt tonight :p

I think u can do Pelenor and the first MT one without buying anything. Doing the first MT one will open the next one,and doing that will open final one.
