Field trip

It was fun to be a part of that! Great idea Prof. and Mythgard crew!!! I had my Bilanxmond character out as a bodyguard. I believe everyone at ridiculously low levels made it safe. ha!

I just finished watching it a-syncronously. So glad you all made it safely! The last leg there looked pretty risky.

For the record: The adventure in question was a run from Bree to Rivendell on the Anor server. Anor is one of the two "legendary" servers, where characters are level-capped at 50, Moria has not yet opened, characters earn experience at only 65% of the normal rate, and you must be a current "VIP" subscriber to even log on.

You really want to be level 40 to make it all the way to Rivendell safely in Lord of the Rings Online. Corey's character, fresh out of the introduction, was level 4.

Crystal and I were both level 20, too low to be of any protection once we were halfway through the Lone-lands, and we made it by frantically keeping up with the pack and trusting to the few higher-level folks to deal with hungry critters. (Corey only thought he could get away from us by playing an Anor. After all, we don't maintain subscriptions for our drummer's and bass player's accounts. Ha! We started out playing duets, so we have enough songs to fill out a 1-hour concert even on Anor!)

Game-play Lesson Learned: We thought we would not clutter up the Raid group and just keep up on our own. That turned out to be a mistake. There were Hunters in the Raid group who were continuously using the "Find the Path" command, which accelerated the group's walking speed by as much as 30%. We did not have a Hunter, so we had to resort to riding horses just to keep up.

My favorite comments from Corey during that adventure:

"I have 300 hit points! I bet I could take a whole hit!"

... and... upon reaching level 5 due to experience gained from having Raid members murder the local fauna...

"I'm level 5 now! I must be practically invulnerable!"

Game-play note: When you're doing a chicken run to Rivendell, the two most dangerous foes are two stealthy lynxes who attack from ambush: (a) next to the campfire, and then (b) just in front of the elves guarding the entrance to Imladris. You can see and avoid nearly everything else along the way.

If you're playing alone as a chicken without an escort, the trick is to walk slowly in those places. It seems that walking chickens do not attract the attention of the chickenivous lynxes while running chickens always will.

I've done that run as a solo Chicken and the only time I was even threatened (quite literally :p) was by a Badger right near the Gates of Imladris. I'd been previously with a gang of guards when we took a circuitous route which ran into all kinds of nastiness, but I went the direct route and didn't even spot those stealth lynxes, so maybe I was just lucky

I do have several characters who need to get their Chicken Suits properly upholstered so I'll keep an eye out :D

In the interests of geeky wordplay in general, can I suggest "pullivore" as a possible coinage for "chicken eater"? I wonder what the Elvish would be…
