Hareth

As one of the Haladin and also the mother of Húrin and Huor, we would like Hareth to be of Indian/Pakistani descent so that she looks distinct from the House of Hador that she has married into. Her cultural upbringing is unique and different from the people she rules as the Lady of Dor-lómin. In a way, she has paved the way for Morwen, as she has likely taken a much more active role in the work of Galdor than Hador's wife would have taken in his own rule. In this season, we see her recover her sons whom she thought dead after they disappeared years prior, bury her husband, arrange the marriage of her son, and be involved in raising her grandchildren. Her role is both political and familial, though the emphasis in her scenes is typically on her reaction to these momentous events in her life.

As for an age range....her children are nearly grown when we see her this season, so she should not appear to be too young. She should also be 'of an age' to be Galdor's wife, so we will want to choose the actors for each of them with that in mind. Nothing too crazy with the age disparity. In Silm Film, Hareth is born in 415, so she is meant to be 3 years younger than her husband ,and 57 years old when this season comes to a close in 472. So, we'd like an actress somewhere between late 40s and early 60s, who looks like she could have a 20 year old son.

I know that All We Imagine is Light won awards at Cannes and Toronto this past year, and had three prominent female characters in its cast. So, I was vaguely hopeful I could suggest one of them, but I don't think they're the correct ages, alas. (The actress who plays the main character turns 40 this year.) My usual go-to for finding Indian actors who have been in an English-language production is Sense8, as one of the storylines was filmed in India. There are two mother-of-adult-children characters in that, but one was born in 1962, so probably a bit older than we would be wanting for Hareth. (Natasha Rastogi) Mita Vashist is 57 years old, so probably would work age-wise. She plays Kala's mother-in-law, which is a very minor role (and, honestly, rather forgetable).

So, this is my starting point, but I certainly would like to look for more actresses to consider!

Great, I didn't know Mita Vashisht, but she seems an excellent Hareth and one of the things I noticed, in her interview which was in very natural English, that she is keen to make a serious impact with films but also keen to take part in a questionable series (or perhaps even a hypothetical series) and make it the best it can be. So she seems like a good nominee.

My thoughts on who to nominate for Hareth started with the foster mother of Uther Pendragon, who was of course played by Aishwarya Rai in the Last Legion (2007), however the problem is at 5' 7" is she too tall for one of the Haladin. So I thought who else did I see when I watched Indian films more than 20 years ago, and the answer was Sonali Kulkarni, who is 5' 3" and 50 years old. Then, if you ask imdb who are the top actresses in India today, most of them are too young for this role, but Tabu (Tabassum Fatima Hashmi) is 5' 6¾" and 53 years old, also she will be appearing in Dune: Prophecy.

So, back to Sonali Kulkarni then
