Messengers

This is one of the unintended consequences of going ever so slowly (if duely with care!) through a text -- one might let a thread fall from mind. What was the recent usage of messenger? Why, the Messenger of Mordor.of course... So Gandalf may be thinking back (just a few minutes in Council time, not Corey time) to Gloin's narrative. And as that was a Messenger with concealed threats, indeed a mortal threat ("Consider well, but not too long!"), so these Messengers with the Ring carry a simple if necessarily covert existential message to Sauron: Your time is up, pal! Die! Die! (to quote Puccini's Tosca!)
