No More Podcasts on iTunes?

Am I understanding properly, that Exploring the Lord of the Rings (as well as the other podcasts) will no longer be uploaded to iTunes? Is there somewhere else I can download the podcast audio files? If not I suppose I must extract the audio from youtube or twitch videos... a bit of extra work but I'll do it!

Cheers-

The podcast is stored in an Amazon cloud, so you should be able to download it with any podcast app that isn't iTunes.

I think the message was that some of his older feeds were no longer being updated, specifically the itunes U feeds when Apple was right into the idea of online university courses being available to all. The regular Tolkien Professor podcast is continuing.

Thanks Jim, but neither Chrome nor Firefox is able to interpret those page links (This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it ). I've been searching for podcast apps that would give me access to the podcasts stored in an Amazon cloud. I've discovered that Spotify has a dozen Exploring the Lord of the Rings podcasts that are categorized as songs, but they stop after episode 103. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I've used both Podkicker and Podcast Addict and they seem to work fine.

What I would like is a podcast service which works across Chrome and Kindle: I thought Stitcher would do the trick but they've discontinued Chrome support

And just in case anyone is having trouble finding "the regular Tolkien Professor podcast", the Exploring and SilmFilm episodes are at
and you will find the current book Sauron Defeated at
Do you know if these still being updated? The Mythgard one seems to be missing the latest couple of episodes of Sauron Defeated, which are available on YouTube and elsewhere. Could just be a temporary thing, of course..

I have no inside knowledge, but it has happened before and the feeds eventually caught up. The podcasts are not just the soundtrack of the videos, it turns out: they take a different set of actions to create.

The interim is giving me time to listen again to some Dickens. I heartily recommend Librivox.org and in particular the reader Mil Nicholson. She is awesome. https://librivox.org/search?q=reader: mil nicholson&search_form=advanced

The logjam has broken! Exploring episodes 112, 113 and 114, and Sauron Defeated 10 and 11 have all popped into the RSS podcast feed. Now it's catch-up time for podcast listeners.

I still see the episodes on Itunes, currently they have through Episode 126, in late December.

However my question is, how long do they usually take to show up in iTunes? Cause obviously it's February and there have been 4-5 more episodes but they aren't up yet.

So, my understanding of the process is as follows. (It may not be wholly accurate)

Corey Olsen does a live broadcast, available through GoToWebinar (which one must sign up for via e-mail) and Twitch (which one may view passively without logging in, but a login is required to type comments).

Immediately after that broadcast is finished, it is available on Twitch, and it is saved for future viewing on the site. However, this process only goes back so far, so only 'newer' content is available on Twitch.

Not long after the live broadcast, the Twitch video is uploaded to Signum's YouTube page. Again, this is only true for videos from the past few years, and doesn't go back nearly as far as the podcast does.

The recording is also sent to volunteers, who do some minor editing, and then release the podcast. Over the past year, these updates have been very sporadic and 'all at once' - so you might have to wait a couple of months, but then suddenly all of the sessions would be released and available in a large batch. I recognize that this is frustrating to people who would prefer to have a regular update rather than radio silence and then binge. I do not know if there is any way to streamline this process or encourage Signum's volunteers to do it differently. If anyone has concerns or would like to explain why they are frustrated, contacting info@signum by e-mail would seem to be the best recourse.

The most current page on Mythgard's website directing you to the podcast recordings is here:

The podcast feeds at http://s3.amazonaws.com . . . were temporary redirects, and should not be used. My bad.
The current feeds are the ones at fireside.fm, but they also are possibly subject to change. It's best to check in at https://mythgard.org/listen/ for the latest preferred feeds.

That said, it seems this morning that all ELotR content has disappeared, and though there are three episodes of Out of the Silent Planet up now, Wizard of Earthsea Ep. 7 is still nowhere to be found. :(

All the information about the feeds in my post above was from email communications with Keli Fancher, the Digital Campus Dean.
The (new this morning, as far as I know) disappearance of all the Exploring episodes from the fireside feed was not part of that conversation, though.
Exploring episodes 1 through 126 are still available at
but Keli indicated that this feed might not be a permanent fixture.

I have been resolved not to worry about these issues, as my car is in the shop and its player is the only place where any memory of where I was in whatever podcast I was listening to before that guy smashed my car up in the parking lot resides, and so I've been re-listening the Silmarillion Seminar until they get it fixed and I can resume where I left off.

Hello Everyone,

As most of you are aware we've had a large number of podcast issues over the last couple of years. We recently made some significant changes which should alleviate most, if not all, of these issues.

If you are having trouble receiving the latest episodes in your podcast player, please try to re-subscribe using the URLs found on https://mythgard.org/listen.

For further information please listen to the latest episode on The Tolkien Professor Podcast: https://tolkienprof.fireside.fm/410
