I got behind, but finally caught up on Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. (Just loved the analysis of Vogon poetry, by the way.)
I always felt that the bowl of petunias was complaining about how this was not the first time that Arthur Dent's carelessness had destroyed it. I wonder if there's an inside joke in the radio play, maybe a sound-effect of Arthur knocking over a bowl of petunias in the pub, or maybe there was one on his front porch that the bulldozers broke. Can't remember any such thing, but still I wonder...
There is, of course, at least one other example of his carelessness causing great destruction in the book: his words "I've been having a lot of trouble with my lifestyle." that led to an intergalactic war. What a thoughtless thing to say! <g>
