On the inspiration for Bilbo's Earendil poem

I'm listening to the theories of why Bilbo's presence at Rivendell was kept secret from Frodo, and someone suggested that Bilbo absented himself in order that Frodo might have 'his' chair. It suddenly struck me that perhaps the poem of Earendil's journey to Elvenhome was meant to be in honor of Frodo's journey to Rivendell. If so, isn't it interesting that Frodo later acquires a portion of the light of Earendil's star?

You are positing an interesting parallel, Kate, given that Frodo will be the bearer of the treasure used to defeat the enemy and go into a blessed exile following his Quest, just as Earendil did.
