I got a little over enthusiastic and posted a reply to TThurston's interesting comments in the Questions for Narnion section. Now that I've fixed that, I thought I'd move the reply here instead:

Agreed, the wind and landscape in general tell quite a bit of the story. It's worth tracking where the wind is coming from-- if the wind is from the East, what lands lie to East? or North? It will often tell you something about the forces of benevolence or malevolence nearby and is closely tied to (or has a strong influence over) the moods of the characters. The switches between the East and South winds in The Ring Goes South definitely come to mind.
