I've always read Borgil as Betelgeuse (alpha Orionis), which is the brightest red star in that part of the sky and would as the top left star of the constellation probably have been visible above the mist before the rest of Orion was revealed by the lifting mist. But Aldebaran seems plausible, too. (The red giant in Bootes is Arcturus.)
