Session 2:23 - Creative Input from the Listeners!
April 17, 2017
Summary of discussion:
Recall that the lighting in Season 2 will be starlight, firelight, and (in Valinor) treelight
Cuiviénen: Open with large mountain backdrop. Distant hills and mountains (large lake)
No Alps; no snow-topped mountains; not a wall/barrier; mountains should appear 'climbable'
First Choice: Lake Riza, Georgia
(missing an island)
Runner up: Leigh Lake in Grand Tetons, Wyoming, USA
(as long as the lake is big enough)
Alqualondë
Veto of 'tropical blue' water for the sea at Alqualondë
Volcanic islands - Pacific Ring of Fire (possibly Japan)
Hawaii (or other Polynesian location) for Pelorí
Natural Harbor with Sea Gate
Tol Eressëa
Looks like it broke away from main land
Rocky, not chalky
Not a volcanic peak
Roughly the size of England/Ireland (or at least fairly large)
Maybe never show the entire island from the sky (too big)
Calacirya
Ray: "I like the idea of Valinor being a lot larger than most people picture in their headcanon (for example, I've always pictured the Calacirya to be almost a cleft in a narrow mountain range rather than a large alpine valley that divides the Pelori in twain). It will give a scope and grandeur to Valinor (especially when we do the Melkor and Ungoliant look down on Valmar scene)
I would love to see a river cascading down the Calacirya (in my mind, the Calacirya is at least a mile higher on the western end where Ezellohar is than on the eastern end). The river could flow through Tirion in a series of waterfalls."
Kalalau Valley, Hawaii
Large valley between steep volcanic mountains
Add a hill for Tirion to be built on, and alter the harbor for Alqualondë
