Sequel hooks

I know we're doing this whole death-of-the-author/only-read-the-text-and-not-any-potential-contextualizing-related-stuff thing, but are we ignoring the sequels on purpose? I'm talking about things like Agrajag/the bowl of petunias, and the Man who Rules the Universe from his little shack that the first book alludes to in that one footnote about the President's role.

It's a neat exercise to read the book as though it's the only one that has yet been published (the way LotR is being handled), but it seems weird that we're not even acknowledging that these "mysterious" items are in fact addressed later on. (Personally I always found them a little ambiguous and was hoping to hear some discussion of whether my reading of them was correct or not.)
