One quick thought about Sméagol and Déagol that I was hoping Corey could comment on: Sméagol and Déagol seem to be a dark reflection of Frodo and Sam, respectively. Sam will come to openly acknowledge a love for Frodo later in the tale. Unlike Sam and Frodo, however, these two are not generous to one another in the way Sam and Frodo are.
