There was discussion in episode 169 (the first that was live on YouTube) about Gandalf saying he tamed Shadowfax. That reminded me at the taming in The Little Prince. It seemed to be the kind of taming that made sense between Gandalf and Shadowfax. So I looked tonight and found several quotes from that book (and when I was in college we all quoted it a lot in both languages) that remind me of some of our discussions here, and of Tolkien's philosophy. See what you think..
This is the one that I thought of when discussing Gandalf and Shadowfax.
“For me, you are only a little boy just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you have no need of me, either. For you I’m only a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, we’ll need each other. You’ll be the only boy in the world for me and I’ll be the only fox in the world for you.”
