Has Anyone Read The Hammer and the Cross?

I was reading some stuff about Tom Shippey, and apparently he co-authored an alternate history trilogy under a pseudonym. Is anyone familiar with this trilogy?

And another book goes on my to-be-read pile... the co-author "John Holme" is Shippey, according to Wikipedia. He's listed on the print edition but not the Kindle. I'll bet his role was as historian as well as curmudgeon 🙂
