A Sleeping Bombadil before Ea?

In the discussion on Tom talking to the hobbits and taking them through the history of Ea and how he was first and witnessed much, I found it fascinating that Tom ends up falling asleep. I always found this striking and wondered why this happens and it wasn't until listening to the discussion that a new thought came to me.

In the telling of the history does Tom find himself at the end coming back to the beginning of Ea, or in fact before the beginning of Ea, and during this "time" before time was he sleeping? And if Bombadil was sleeping before Ea what does this mean to us witnessing him falling asleep in the recounting of the history and beginnings of Ea?

I don't have any concrete thoughts on this so I thought I would ask you lovely bunch and search your minds.
