At some point, it might be beneficial for this project to include an essay or presentation on 'close reading'. (Probably written by Corey.) What is it? Why do it? What are the pros and cons? Compare and contrast with 'broad reading'. Discuss perspectives. The perspective of the characters. The perspective of the writer. The perspective of the first-time reader. The perspective of the long time reader and fan. Which are covered best by close reading? What did the class learn from close reading? How often was the class tempted to diverge to other (broader?) perspectives? Going through the forums so far, I already notice many comments which touch on these themes either tangentially or directly.
