Ep 102 The killing of the Nazgul's horses was strategic

Sorry for not being years behind - working on it, I promise!

In the Many Meetings chapter we see 2 unresolved questions :
"Would Glorfindel really drive horses to die in the river?", and
"for whom did Gandalf add white foam horses/riders & boulders?"

I think the answer is in Gandalf's statement "Their horses must have perished, and without them they are crippled".
This was probably the plan all along.
They did't just intend to stop a Nazgul intrusion into Rivendell, but ALSO to prevent them from regrouping outside Rivendell AND/OR to quickly return to Mordor.
Best bet: destroy their horses. No other horses would carry them.

Gandalf: "Caught between fire and water, and seeing an Elf-lord revealed in his wrath, the[Nazgul] were dismayed, and their horses were stricken with madness"

His white foam riders, further panicked the black horses, and the flood + boulders ensured the crippling of the Ringwraiths.
What happened at the Ford was strategic in the sense of thinking ahead, and Glorfindel was in on the plan.
It worked, because the wraiths returned, slowly, to Sauron, thereby buying the fellowship lots of time.
