I nominate Eddie Redmayne as this enthusiastic, exploring, innovative elf who manages to teach Ents to speak. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1519666/?ref_=nv_sr_1

He doesn't really need an introduction. Lenwë is a role for this season only, and actually only a few episodes, so we need someone who people will instantly love - and Redmayne can pull that off. Maybe some would have liked to cast him for a bigger role, but since he's really tied up with the Fantastic beasts it would be difficult for him to commit to something bigger. Speaking of sizes, he is about 6' tall.

As the leader of the Nandor, Lenwë is someone who falls in love with Middle Earth too much to leave. But unlike the Avari, he does set out on the journey. He is not afraid of the unknown, but lingers in Middle Earth because of a purpose he thinks he has there. They meet the ents, and they're teaching them to talk, so...he has to stay and do that.

He played a brilliant, socially awkward (Aspergers) scientist on the show Bones, which is likely irrelevant here; he does 'earnest' well. But he will be good in a minor supporting role that people will have to like him despite his inability to fit with the group. He also has a great singing voice, so we could use that in the teaching-ents-to-speak scenes.

I nominate Edward Hogg, whom I'm familiar with as Mr. Segundus from Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. I can picture him being just as affable in this role, and think he would do enthusiasm and authenticity well. His character, Segundus, began a tutoring endeavour in theoretical magic and was on his way to opening up a school for magicians, so I can imagine Hogg as Lenwë being great with the Ents, and eagerly and lovingly teaching them to speak.
