Mandos is actually Santa, and the elves that help him are the Fëa of the ones who "died". When they have made their set quota of toys, they are released back into the world. That Santa's helpers are known as elves, is no coincidence.

So does this mean that Glorfindel, with his jolly jingle-bells, is an emissary of Santa Claus rather than Manwe?

Or he might have liked them so well, he copied them when he came back to Middle-Earth?
