Hi Corey!

Concerning the mood of the non-existing verb in Gandalf's fiery incantation:
I like to think it was indicative such as when Gandalf informs Saruman that his staff is broken. I like this because it creates consistency, and I love consistent magic systems! You pushed back on that notion, saying when Gandalf cries out his incantation, the action is described as happening afterward. When comparing the text in these passages, they seem to follow the same pattern:

'Saruman, your staff is broken. ' There was a crack, and the staff split asunder in Saruman's hand, and the head of it fell down at Gandalf's feet.

‘Naur an edraith ammen! Naur dan i ngaurhoth!’ he cried.
There was a roar and a crackle, and the tree above him burst into a leaf and bloom of blinding flame.

Concerning Gandalf’s use of his Ring of Power:
There was discussion about whether Gandalf had used Narya to cast his spell. There is also the riddle of why his incantation was in Sindarin. I believe an argument could be made that he did use his ring, and in order to use an Elvish Ring of Power he had to think and speak in Elvish.

Great episode, thanks!
