Fellow Tolkien Fans,
Despite quarantine, I have fallen somewhat behind in my listening to Exploring the Lord of the Rings. I have only just heard the discussion on whether or not Bilbo has cast his story into verse. Such a prospect seemed tantalizing to me; and therefore, I have given a poetic version of The Hobbit a shot. Though "Hobbit meter" would have been a better choice, I ended up with rhyming couplets and a very very very very loose four-beat line. The meter gets looser the farther you go... Not very good, perhaps, but it was fun to write all the same. Here is the unexpected party, up to the invention of the game of golf.
