There are good things about the Bakshi film; the costumes aren't one of those things. Peter Beagle helped with the script, and it shows.

I saw it in the movie theatre when I was what, 8? And I was quite impressed. The Black Riders in particular were really cool.

Well I can tell you that I saw an hour of the 1963 movie Cleopatra yesterday and I don't think anybody in it had proper pants.

Quite correct. In fact, a friend of mine and I used to joke that the film was actually a movie about the "War Between Those Who Wear Pants, and Those Who Do Not Wear Pants!"
