He's 6'1" so maybe a bit too tall for Húrin, but I reckon he could carry off acting shorter. He has the physicality and he did play Superman and the eponymous Witcher with great aplomb, and range. I reckon he would do post-Angband Húrin well.

Part of my problem is that I keep thinking of guys who are significantly older than what we're looking for. I imagine we'd want someone in the late 20's/early 30's age range. But we also want someone short/stocky - a guy who looks like if someone runs into him....they'll fall down, and he'll still be standing.

I've thought of a couple of action hero type actors who could play that type of role...but they're in their 50's! Jason Stathum is 5'10", and certainly tends to play roles where he's the last one standing in the fight scenes he gets into. Similarly, Jeremy Renner is 5' 8 1/2", and he handles himself very well in action roles (or did, before his accident).

Best I've come up with is Taron Egerton. He's in his early 30's, and only 5'9". He can clearly do fight choreography (based on Kingsman).

How about Leo Woodall (White Lotus, One Day). 5'11". He's very muscular. His performance in One Day i thought was extremely good - brought complexity over 20 year period for the same character.

Before it was decided that Húrin was to be dark-haired, one of my suggestions was going to be Ben Hardy. He's had a few physical roles (Angel in X-Men: Apocalypse, Four in Six Underground where he did a lot of parkour), played the drums for Bohemian Rhapsody.

I'll admit I'm having a hard time conceptualizing Húrin, mainly reconciling his build with his height. It's been decided that Húrin has the build of a linebacker right? The problem is that guys with builds like a linebacker tend to be tall; take Josh Allen, Hailee Steinfeld's boyfriend, who's 6'5" and nearly 240lbs (I can't post pictures of them together because the file isn't the right type).

Or rather, forget the idea of a linebacker at all, and just use the idea of "stocky". Someone who is solid and looks like if they plant themselves firmly, they'd be difficult to knock down (that's the linebacker comparison, not actual build).

In a word, no. He is to be on the shorter side (ie, under 6'), dark haired, and stocky.

In Season 7, he is 21-33 years old, so I would like to limit our casting to actors under 40. We can make Húrin look older with makeup later. Hard to believe that a 50 year old guy is 25 though!

The idea is to clearly distinguish him from Huor.

So, Galdor is quintisentially House of Hador (tall, blond, broad shoulders). Huor is going to be tall and lighter haired, but somewhat slight/slender in build. Húrin will be shorter and broad-shouldered, with darker hair. So, they should all look related to each other, but not easily confused.


Recall that in Silm Film, the House of Haleth is played by people of Indian descent (Indian subcontinent). So it would be rather unlikely if Hareth were to have blond children, even if Galdor is blond (which he is). Blond human characters should have descent (on both sides) from either the House of Hador or the House of Bëor. We did portray Adanel as blond, and have indicated some blond background characters in the House of Bëor. But a parent who is solely from the House of Haleth should have dark-haired children, in general.
