Please follow the instructions Haakon has given us for nominating actors for Season 7 of Silm Film.

This forum is ONLY for nominating cast members for Season 7. Do not comment on any of the nominations posted here. Comments will be deleted. (You may reply to this thread with comments/questions.)

One thread per role. If you want to nominate someone for a role that isn't already here, start a thread with the character's name. If a thread for the character you want to nominate for is already on the board, use that thread to post your nomination.

Include the following in your nomination post:
  • Actor name
  • Link to their page on imdb.com
  • Height and age
  • Photos, no more than 3 (for Voice roles or characters who are known musicians, always include a movie or sound clip)
  • A short write up of why you are nominating this actor, referring to the specifications created for the character.
Actors are eligible to be nominated if they are:
  • alive
  • have an imdb page
  • have not already been cast in this project
A list of roles already cast can be found here: Cast So Far
This post contains a list of all actors already cast in the project, arranged alphabetically by last name: https://forums.signumuniversity.org/index.php?threads/cast-so-far.327/post-48562
Or in this google spreadsheet:

Note that during Season 5, we came up with general guidelines for casting Men in Silm Film:

The House of Hador, as described by Tolkien, will tend to be blond and Nordic-looking. They do not all need to be blond; some can have dark hair. They are taller than the other houses. In Silm Film we describe this house as looking "Northern European"

Tolkien says that the House of Bëor tends to have dark brown hair and grey eyes, though some had fair hair. They are shorter than the House of Hador. In Silm Film, we describe this house as looking "Mediterranean"

The House of Haleth is generally shorter than the other two houses. In Silm Film, we describe this house as looking "Indian/Pakistani"

Making characters within houses look alike will help the audience tell what house a character belongs to.

Feel free to nominate actors who fit the above criteria for the roles listed in the following post.

Deadline to submit nominations will be Sunday February 2nd, 2025. Any nominations made after that time will not be included on the ballot for voting.

List of Characters to Cast for Season 7

Elves

- Gwindor
Gwindor should be 'tormented' in two different ways. In Season 7, he is haunted by the loss of his brother in the Dagor Bragollach, and as such becomes a bit of a zealot obsessed with fighting. And then of course after his time in Angband, he is physically weakened and tormented and haunted by what he has seen and done. Gwindor should not look like a natural-born soldier. He can have a slender elf build that makes his eagerness to fight stand out in contrast to what may be his presumed natural abilities.
Dark hair.

- Finduilas
Child of Meril and Orodreth. Not mousy. Not a commanding presence. Overlookable. Quietly firm; not a pushover. Pretty, but not show-stopping gorgeous.

Men of Dor-lómin
- Galdor
Tall. Blond. Burly/stocky build. To look at him, you would think him a commander of armies and a good fighter, and you would not be wrong. 40's-50's

- Húrin
Shorter than Huor. Burly/stocky build. Dark hair. Appears to be in his 20's or early 30's.

- Huor
Taller than Húrin. Blond. More slender build. Stands behind and supports his brother - not a 'take charge' type.
Actor in his 20's

- Gelir
Cousin of Húrin and Huor on their father's side (ie, fully House of Hador). Gregarious personality, a generally happy guy. Favorite uncle who brings gifts. 20's or early 30's. Blond.

Men of Brethil
-Handir
Medium Height (between Húrin and Huor). Medium complexion. Medium build. A 'blend' of Haladin and Hadorian traits.
20's or early 30's.

-Hareth
Short, dark haired. Fully Haladin (so, Indian/Pakistani appearance). Wife of Galdor, mother of Húrin and Huor. 45-55 years old.
(Late addition to the casting list

Men of the House of Bëor
- Morwen
Tall (okay if she's taller than Húrin), Dark-haired, pale-skinned, striking, queenly, serious. 20's.

- Rían
Shorter than Morwen, Dark-haired, more bubbly/happy personality (similar to Lalaith). Would not be amiss if the actress could dance.
Young - teen or young 20s.

- Beldis
Minor role. She's in love with Handir, then she's his wife. She must contend with the serious injury her son Brandir suffers during the Council.

Men of Bree
- Bor
Consummate soldier. Charioteer. Old campaigning buddy of Ulfang. Perhaps a larger-than-life, boisterous, Brian Blessed-type character.
Slavic appearance. 40's.

- Ulfang
Consummate soldier. Confidant, commanding. Well-deserved success. A better military commander than a father, though.
Mediterranean appearance. 50's. Has a beard.

- Uldor
Daddy-issues. First, he's trying to prove himself (maybe a bit whiny). Later, he wants to remove his father from the picture. Does not have a typical warrior 'look'.
Mediterranean appearance. 20's or early 30's.

- King Above Kings of Bree
Politically savvy leader. Only has one son. Considers himself a peer of Galadriel, and is not afraid to seek out a meeting with the Necromancer.
Middle-aged. Mediterranean appearance.

Dwarves
- Two Everyman Dwarves of Belegost
Dark hair, dark beards, broad builds

Frame
- Saruman
Most important trait will be his mellifluous voice. He thinks very highly of himself. He certainly can be a good-looking older gentleman. Taller than Gandalf. May be of any racial background.

Ideally, we will have at least 3 nominees for each character, meaning we are looking for about 54 nominations this season. Italicized names are roles that now have enough nominations (though more are welcome). Non-italicized names are roles that still need more nominees.
Current tally: 24/54 (as of 1/13/24) Let's try to finish casting nominations by the end of the month.

These instructions are really great.
Does a thread exist for Hareth?
(By the way, Session 24 was the best yet, and working through the dragon solution was truly impressive!)

If you have a nominee in mind for Hareth, please, by all means, start a thread!

If you would like to discuss possibilities before nominating, I've created this thread in the other subform (Season 7, not Season 7 NOMINATIONS):

The new deadline for casting nominations is Sunday February 2nd. We have two more weeks to nominate, and then the poll will be created from what we have.

At this time, we are looking for:

Reminder that today is the last day to post nominations. It will close in 12 hours (at midnight Eastern time)

Nominations are now *closed*. No names added to the threads at this point will be included in the poll.
