Queen Azrâindil is the matriarch of the Haradrim city-state Gandalf travels to in the frame and mother of Abrazân and Arnûben, the latter of whom will become the Mouth of Sauron down the timeline. A firm but fair leader, she has to keep balance between the ruling class and the common folk, the latter of whom show support for Sauron in his capacity as their "god". Ultimately however she is overthrown and killed, forcing Gandalf and Abrazân to flee.

Taraji P. Henson's role as Detective Carter in Person of Interest is somewhat of a stern, maternal figure; sharp as a tack but caring.

Rob Harding mentioned she's a great actress, so I thought, why not nominate her for the role of queen of the Haradrim city-state who knows Gandalf and is resistant to Sauron's encroachment on their independence...and whose life ends tragically in a coup.

She plays Lady Danbury on Bridgerton, Brenda Mazibuko in Invictus, and Dr. Jacobs in Fractured.

Here's an audioclip of her talking about Anansi stories:

The execs have expressed that Queen Azrâindil should be a distinguished woman, but not lofty, and her way of ruling benevolent. She isn't above her subjects but is friends with them. Corey also want her contrasted to the Mouth of Sauron, who should be very skinny - so the queen shouldn't be that.
Octavia Spencer has a wonderful presence, and a warmth that will be excellent in this role. She obviously has a lot of experience, has won awards etc. She's known from Hidden figures and The Witches, for example.
