What powers did the lesser rings give?

Gandalf said that long ago the elves made many rings, some more powerful and some less so. Perhaps it's foolish to speculate on this, but what powers might these rings have given? And if I understand rightly, these rings were not under the power of the one ring, so, trifles though they were, their powers would still exist after the one ring was destroyed and the three had lost their powers, would they not?

some of them no doubt made invisible.That's why Gandalf suspected Bilbo's Ring to be one of the lesser ribgs in the first place. For other powers i don't know... maybe we could take a look on the classic magic rings, like those from arthurian literature for example.Some make invisible, some give strength...
