"who is he" vs "what is he"

Hello everyone! I'm new here but just discovered this course and am absolutely loving going through everything (I'm on episode 32 currently). I'm a scientist by trade and this is the first time I've really enjoyed in-depth analysis of literature and I feel I am finally understanding what it's all about!

I was re-reading some passages in Tom Bombadil's house and came across something interesting - Corey talked a lot about how Frodo's question, "Who is Tom Bombadil?", was really meant to be "What is Tom Bombadil". Just a couple pages later, we see Frodo asking of Tom, essentially, "What is Old Man Willow?". I find this interesting, almost as if Frodo is learning how to phrase his questions better.

Anyways, I'm doing my best to catch up and hope I'll be able to join some live streams before too long!
