I'm low-key glad there's an extra week off from Exploring. I have *things to say* about Glorfindel but won't be at a keyboard for a while... Dec 23, 2018

Will be posting less, as I'm away from my normal posting place (work computer) for a couple weeks. Happy holidays to everyone!

Random thought (from PubSil). What cause would Maedhros have to refer to his friend Fingon as "the Valiant"? Heroics during Kinslaying?

Yes, Maedhros clearly knows Fingon better than the reader does, at that point in the story!

Kinda like how Merry knows that Lotho will be at the bottom of any ill doings in the Shire, though this is the first the reader is hearing about it.

An additional question is whether Maedhros ever sent an apology to Thingol. Given his inability/unwillingness to ask nicely for a Silmaril after his brothers abducted Luthien for forced marriage, it does seem less likely than apologizing to Finrod.

Maedhros seems mostly dismissive of Thingol, so I can't see him thinking to extend an olive branch - what's the point? As for the impolitely-worded-letter...I highly doubt Maedhros penned it. After the failure of the Union of Maedhros, he's no longer calling the shots for the FĂ«anoreans.

350 days for the first 250 Likes, 364 days for the next 250. That's pretty consistent.

Good luck on the session today, wish I could join in! Can't wait to pop the Twitch archive on this afternoon :)

Wow I feel like we've creatively broken a couple plotlines in SilmFilm that are really coming out nicely.

I'm glad you feel like we're getting somewhere. I haven't got them to come together and "click" in my mind yet. For a season in which "nothing happens" we seem to have a lot of events and storylines to pack in and fit together...

Framed primarily for the Lord of the Rings fan who hasn't read it, or who tried and failed, or who hasn't read it for a while. ie. our primary SilmFilm audience :)

There were some bits here and there of real insight or interesting observation.

Frankly, I could start it in real time if it worked that way, I just wouldn't be able to stay in real time. I need a pause button while I'm at work.

Well I didn't try before it ended, but I did fire it up almost immediately after the live stream ended, and it played just fine from that point.

Yeah I don't think I'll be able to manage live sessions this season. Friday mornings just don't work for me to be distracted at work anymore

I've been having the same problem. The best I can manage a lot of the time has been to listen and occasionally toss in a comment from my phone.

I was unemployed for much of S3 (and one of the Warning Bells that my previous job wasn't as secure as I'd like was how easy it was to participate then haha)

Well, I was present enough to listen live, but not to watch the slides or add comments. Good enough for a busy boy I suppose.

Anyone else avoiding thinking about S4 the way I seem to be? Unintentional I swear, but there it is...
      1. amysrevenge
        amysrevenge
That said. Do we have a written out breakdown of where we anticipate S4 to go, start to finish, with high points noted? Or is it more "from where we ended S3 up to Beren & Luthien"?

I listed the events that need to happen on p. 1 of Concerns About Season Four, but parsing that into episodes, each with a climax, is usually something Nick does best.

We likely won't begin Season 4 until September, so you have some time, yet. We probably should hash out some ideas for overall season arc/episode breakdown to share with the Hosts prior to the 'official' discussion of same.

I'm hoping by next year to have more of my own equipment, so if we try it again like that it might work out better.

I mostly just never get tired of hearing people (you, or Corey, or whoever) describing the project to interested outside observers. So the intro bit is great.

OK whenever I look at a S3 script outline, I mentally add "In case you forgot, it's still really dark" to the start of every outdoor scene.

Yeah it's the worst/most difficult season that way. My favourite scene is Melian driving away spider unlight with dusky Girdle under trees a starry night.

Many of us are passionate, both about the text and about the issues that concern us. That does tend to elevate a more spirited dialogue, which I will admit to falling into myself now and again. I wish you all the best in what I'm sure is a high-stress situation. I tend to devolve pretty quickly without my wife around.

Yeah best of luck to you! I've been there, it can be tough (and I tend to devolve as well..). I haven't noticed anything in your ways here that I considered 'snippy' or out of order. Don't worry.

While I've not noticed anything particularly untoward from you, there has been some contentious posting lately. Hopefully, we can all put that behind us and be more charitable to one another.

As for your move, all the best! My brother-in-law is often deployed, and I know how difficult it is on the family to survive that separation. All power to you, and may your job go well!
