those "treacherous Gnomes", Ufedhin and Narthseg... they are typical "evil elves" like those we meet in lost tales... they are more like Maeglin or Eol´s Folk rather than like Feanorians. From one point of view it seems likely that there were some sort of arbitrators between the Sindar and the Dwarves... Noldor would not fit the bill.. so their eastern kinsmen, the Eol-Avari who are as noldorish as you can get, could hsve stepped in ad mediators between Doriath and the Dwarves... having ties to both factions. But i don´t think we need Ufedhin or Narthseg.we could reduce them to bystanders/Figwits though.
