Situated in the far Northwest of Beleriand, between the mountains of Ered Wethrin and Ered Lómin, Hithlum is close to Angband but with some natural defence. Hithlum's climate is cold and wet, with cool air and cold winters, but the soil is quite rich and it is a fair land. The south-eastern part of it is called Mithrim. The south-western part is called Dor-lómin.
I think it would work visually to use the Scottish Highlands as inspiration.
